Our Core Values

10,000 Volunteers, One Mission: Changing Lives Together!

01

Comprehensive

We work to prevent and respond to the full scope of elder abuse by addressing physical, emotional, and spiritual abuse, neglect, financial exploitation, and systemic violence.

Why This Matters

Elder abuse is not a single issue—it’s a complex problem that manifests in many ways. By taking a comprehensive approach, we ensure that coalitions are equipped to address the full spectrum of elder mistreatment and work across multiple systems to create lasting change.

This value ensures that no older adult falls through the cracks and that all forms of abuse are recognized and addressed.

02

Social Justice, Equity & Intersectionality

We actively seek to ensure that state and Tribal elder justice coalitions are equipped to operate equitably, and can address and overcome systemic barriers to protection and services for older adults and those with disabilities.

Why This Matters

Older adults from marginalized communities face compounded barriers to protection and services. By centering equity and intersectionality, we work to dismantle systemic barriers and ensure that all older adults—regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, disability status, or other identities—have access to protection and support.

This value commits us to building coalitions that are truly inclusive and responsive to the needs of all older adults.

03

Collaboration

We aim to create and support a thriving network of coalitions that encompass multidisciplinary bonds among social, healthcare, legal, financial, and community systems to improve services and promote sound public policy.

Why This Matters

Elder justice requires coordination across many systems—social services, healthcare, law enforcement, legal services, and financial institutions. No single organization can address elder abuse alone. By fostering collaboration, we create a unified front that improves services and drives systemic change.

This value recognizes that collective action is more powerful than isolated efforts.

04

Continuous Reflection & Responsiveness

We are committed to growing the field of practice in state and Tribal elder justice coalitions. We value professional development, research, and the adaptation of contemporary work to new understandings and innovations.

Why This Matters

The field of elder justice is evolving. New research, emerging practices, and changing demographics require us to continuously reflect on our work and adapt our approaches. By valuing professional development and research, we ensure that coalitions have access to the latest knowledge and best practices.

This value keeps our field dynamic, innovative, and responsive to new challenges.

Having participated in the establishment of elder abuse coalitions, especially at local and state levels, from their earliest days, I remain heartened by their will to "make a difference", often despite any or sufficient financial support

Georgia Anetzberger

Tribal Elder Justice Coalitions can incorporate traditional teachings, cultural values, and peacemaking practices to face challenges and incorporate collaborative problem solving while respecting tribal sovereignty and Indigenous lived experiences. Tribal Coalitions and the National Center provide a mechanism to ensure that Indigenous voices shape policy and national discussions to help create inclusive and equitable approaches to protecting all older adults.

Wendelin Hume

Elder justice means supporting victims of abuse by prioritizing elder abuse prevention and response. State and tribal coalitions build strong partnerships to address awareness, public policy, and education. The National Center will be an invaluable resource to expand the number and presence of coalitions across the nation.
